Description: Franz Witte Community Workshop: "Bonsai Class 101" workshop - public attendees & multiple classes. Member Facilitators to receive nursery stock as a "Thank You!". Also, bring example show trees (or trees in training?) to set up as a display for this public workshop! Thank you!
Additional Notes: We need to work on marketing for this class at the BFGS: Registration details, QR Code, Signage in the demo area, coupon or discount code?
Jon will bring: Assistance for needed education, a few styled trees for display & to show what finished products look like, bagged soil for sale, chopsticks for demo.
Franz Witte will provide: Pottery, Procumbens Junipers, Wire, Scissors.

BBS & Franz: New Talent Competition!

Description: BBS & Franz Witte: "New Talent Competition" Tree Styling Friendly Competition! Taking raw nursery stock to 'finished' tree in 4 hours!
Material: 1 gallon Japanese Garden Juniper
Categories by years of experience: 0-5 yrs / 5-10 yrs / Open (10+ yrs).
Cost: $25 for BBS Members; $35 for Non-BBS Members
Prizes for winners in each class will be awarded!
Rules: Each participant will draw a number to receive their tree. They will have 4 hours to complete the process of transforming their tree into a pre-bonsai. Participants cannot be given guidance by outside influences or members. Each tree will be judged (blindly) by members that are not participating in the competition.
Scoring: The scoring will be determined by the following features on a scale of 1-10: Front of the tree, Line of the tree, Wire application technique, Branch selection & placement, Overall aesthetic. Each judge will provide their score and all scores will be tallied. Then the winner will be announced.

Annual Bonsai & Koi Show, hosted by Edwards Greenhouse for 2nd year. Please prep and bring your trees for show and enjoy good company and demos. Please share this event & location with your friends! There is no fee to attend, so invite any and all friends who are interested in Japanese culture. Move-in will be at 8; please be right on time, as it really does take the full hour to get everyone's trees to look good together, and coming late to setup often requires reworking setup that has already been completed. Trees will be on display 9 until 4, and then tear-down happens immediately after the show closes.
